There is really only one “secret weapon” or “magic solution” when it comes to making progress in life and that is you. This is what making progress in life is all about when all is said and done. Before you can make any real progress in life you first need to establish what you would like to achieve. It is great to say to yourself, “I want to make progress in life!”, but in reality this is probably the worst way to start your journey. By setting extremely vague goals for yourself you are already setting yourself up for failure. These types of goals just don’t work most of the time. A goal such as “making progress in life” seems appealing at first but once time goes on you’ll begin to see why it is just the opposite.
The reason why saying that you simply want to “make progress in life” is a bad goal is because it is almost impossible to define. Tell me this, what the hell does it mean to make progress in life? Is it getting into a healthy relationship? Is it buying a cheeseburger at the local fast food joint? Honestly, making progress in life could literally be anything which is why it shouldn’t be your goal when it comes to making progress in life. Yes, I did make that last sentence confusing on purpose. Seriously though, if you truly want to make progress in your life then you need to set tangible goals for yourself. You need to define what making progress means to you and then you need to establish that goal for yourself. An example of an okay goal for making progress would be getting a college education. It is still a bit vague but it is much better than saying you want to make progress and only that.
Once you have set a specific goal for yourself which you would to like to move towards over a period of time you will want to make it clear as to how you will reach the finish line. It isn’t enough to want to achieve a certain goal. You need to plan out exactly how you will make progress when it comes to achieving your goal. If you don’t meticulously plan your method of attack then you increase your chances of becoming sidetracked or unfocused which could potentially ruin any progress you might make. => Doing HW
=> Getting good grades
=> Pursuing scholarships
=> Working with the community
And so on and so forth. Do you see what I mean when I say there is a huge difference between simply setting a goal for making progress in life and actually planning out that said goal? My example is very limited but you should still be able to see the point of planning. When planning out your goal you will want to be as specific as possible. I mean being specific to the point of being considered a freak or something. Even if you think something is insignificant and not worth planning, write it down and take it into consideration. If it has to do with making your progress in life then it is very much worth your time.
The reason why it is important to be overly meticulous when it comes to planning is because it allows you track your progress much more easily which in turn will allow you the gratitude of seeing yourself make progress. This is essential when it comes to reaching goals. If you can’t see yourself making progress and it looks as if you are getting nowhere then you are more likely to lengthen the time frame it takes to reach your goal or worse, put it off all together.
Setting and planning out your goals for making progress will only get you so far and at then end of the day these to activities won’t actually “do” anything as far as taking real steps towards progress. Remember how I mentioned that only you are the key to making progress in life and that reading articles won’t get you anywhere? Well, this is the part where I talk about that stuff.
It’s true, reading this article or setting a goal for yourself or even planning out your goals won’t “truly” get you anywhere in terms of making progress in life. These things can get you to the tipping point but when it comes to making genuine progress there is only one thing that matters and that is you. This is something you need to stuff into conscious, sub-conscious, and all in between if you would like to move forward in life.
You need to realize that you and only you is responsible for any change made in your life. This is much easier said than done, believe me I know this. However, it is something that needs to be done. If you can’t take full responsibility for your actions and realize that you are in full control of what happens during the course of your lifetime then you will always be reading “How To Make Progress In Life” articles and never actually doing it. This is what it all comes down to. It is something that is so simple yet so complex at the same time.
